This year I've been (very slowly) trying to get more of my content back onto my own sites and away from posting so much on social media. I've also been encouraging people I know to start their own blogs and personal sites. I've been collecting links to personal sites and blogs and reading more content from those sites.
Despite my (fairly strong) opinion that I should be blogging more, the process of getting back to it has been difficult for me. Not technically but emotionally. I've been trying to sort out why that is. Overthinking is one of my superpowers and I've been doing a lot of it.
And then I read these posts from Aubrey Sambor, On blogging more often and Writing about non-tech things, where she talks about feeling like her posts need to have a topic or purpose and worrying that the things she writes won't be "sophisticated and grown up enough" for the Internets.
As I read these posts I thought two things - first thing is that I think Aubrey is am amazing human and incredibly talented. I love what she's written and I appreciate her as a fellow web developer in the community. And I need to tell her that more often.
Second thing is that we should all post more about what we're feeling and thinking because what we put out there might be what someone else was looking for. It doesn't always have to be a Big Important Idea. I know, a lot of people know this but it's easy to get lost in self-doubt and second-guessing so I'm saying it again because I need to remind myself of this and I'm guessing someone else needs to hear it too.
I'm glad Aubrey shared these posts. They were just what I needed. And, just like she did in her post, I'll leave you with a photo of one of my favorite mugs - it's my Loki, Time Variance Authority mug.
Now I have to get to work on blogging more often.
